“Serbia is the biggest exporter of weapons and military equipment in the region”, said Jasmina Roskić, the Head of the Sector for Foreign Trade in Controlled Goods in the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications.
The data that Serbia exported 55.4% of the total value of exports of all countries in the region was published in the Regional Report on the Export of Weapons and Military Equipment in 2011, which is regularly prepared by the Center for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in Southeastern Europe (SEESAC – South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons).
The value of the domestic export of weapons in 2011, the last year processed by the recently published report, was approximately 125 million euros, while the total value of exported weapons and military equipment in the region was about 225 million euros.
“For example, Serbian exports equaled double the amount of exports of the second ranked country on this list, Croatia, whose share of exports was 25%, and almost three times bigger than the exports of Bosnia and Herzegovina – 18.2%”, said Jasmina Roskić.
Besides Serbia, the region in this report also includes Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
