State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić has said that education and prevention are the strongest means for fighting for online safety of children.
When presenting the project “Online safety – life safety”, the Foundation “Tatjana Jurić” in the Media Centre of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, the State Secretary has stressed that the foundation is a significant partner of the Ministry in the joint fight for better online safety of children.
“Project “Online safety – life safety”, as it can be seen from the name itself, draws attention precisely to the most important thing children and the young need to understand, that their actions on the Internet can have consequences in the reality. It is important that a large number of children become involved in education, based on the methodology similar to the one implemented by the Ministry in school presentations within the “IT caravan”, Ms Matić has said.
The State Secretary used the opportunity to announce the beginning of work of the National Contact Centre for Online Safety of Children in late February, which will provide our citizens with the possibility to report improper and dangerous contents on the Internet, and to educate themselves about the ways how to protect themselves.
The work of the Centre, which will be coordinated by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, will also involve the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Polity, and the Republican Public Prosecutor’s Office.
