During today’s session, the Government adopted the National interoperability framework which sets the guidelines for establishing and implementing interoperability in public administration in the Republic of Serbia.

The reform and modernization of public administration, which is based on the wide use of information and communication technologies (ICT), is considered to be one of the key elements for further development of the information society in Serbia. More efficient administration processes and the reduction of administrative expenses are prerequisites for a successful reform of public administration in which ICT play a significant role.

The reform is achieved through the establishment of interoperability – that is by creating a system which enables the exchange of data, information and knowledge through harmonized business processes with ICT support.

Interoperability is a precondition for a faster, cheaper, better quality provision of public services to citizens and businesses, based on the principle of one-stop government. In addition, this would enable the reduction of costs thanks to a more efficient electronic provision of public services.

The National interoperability framework will ensure the compliance of business processes within and among the public administration bodies. The framework is being established in accordance with European practice in public services provision, while respecting security and privacy policies and policies governing the keeping and archiving of public services and electronic records.

The adopted interoperability framework foresees that the interaction of public administration systems is done in a safe environment and totally in accordance with the applicable provisions, such as the regulations on privacy and personal data protection.
