Prevent the attacks of malicious software

State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić has told all the citizens, organisations, enterprises, to protect their computers and information systems from malicious software “WanaaCrypt”, popularly known as “WannaCry”, which prevents the access and use of computer data.

“The latest cyber-attack at the global level has jeopardized the information systems in over 150 countries, including the systems of health organisations. Such mass attacks, especially on the systems of special importance, are another confirmation how much the information safety is significant, and what challenge it is to the entire world”, said Ms Tatjana Matić, reminding that Serbia adopted the Law on Information Safety last year, and that Regulations for that law were adopted as well.

“The Law on Information Safety and bylaws define the competences, protective measures and procedures in case of jeopardised safety of systems and data. Also, the Strategy of Development of Information Safety in the Republic of Serbia was created, which adoption is expected soon”, says State Secretary.

She used the opportunity to invite the citizens to inform themselves using the phone number of the National contact centre for online safety of children – 198333 where they can get advice on protection of their IT devices from computer viruses.

RATEL as the competent National Centre for prevention of safety risk in the information and communication systems has warned all the users of computers about a fast-spreading ransomware attacks called WannaCry.

Having in mind the fact that the problem is present in the Microsoft Windows systems RATEL, in order to protect the computer systems, recommends that all users should update the operative system in order to install the safety correction MS17-010.

Preventive measure has been taken by the Sector for information and communication technologies of the Directorate for joint republic bodies, in order to prevent possible attacks on information systems of public administration.
