Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Lajić has said early today in Belgrade, when signing the contract on exporting the first contingent of water of three million litres from Serbia to Kuwait, that it is a result of years of work with the aim to open the new opportunities for exporting Serbian water to Arabic countries.
“We’ve made the cooperation of the two countries more from a dead point since the last year trade was only 5.1 million dollars”, Mr Ljajić has said.
Speaking of the potentials for cooperation, he has stressed that Serbia has got a loan from Kuwait for the Prokop station, and that there are announcements that Kuwait will finance other projects as well.
“This contract will ensure to other companies from Serbia to place their water to Arabic countries, since the demand for our water is huge. Serbia is known for quality mineral water, and the cooperation with Kuwait will make opportunities for joint cooperation in other projects”, Mr Ljajić has said.
Deputy PM Ljajić has explained that water export from Serbia amounts to 21 million dollars, out of which 80 per cent of it go to the countries in the region, while a half of the amount goes to Montenegro.
He has also added that Serbia produces from five to six million hectolitres of water a year, that the export is growing and that the import was around three million dollars.
He has said that Serbia has around 300 mineral springs, about 25 factories for water processing, and the capacities, as he has stated, are not sufficiently used.
The ceremonial signing of the contract between the domestic company “Voda Voda” from Mionica and the company “Caro General Trading” from Kuwait was attended by the Mayor of Mionica Boban Janković, representatives of the company “Voda Voda” and the delegation of businessmen from Kuwait.
The owner of the company “Voda Voda” Vojin Đorđević has said that this business is very important both when it comes to the amount of exported goods and financial aspect, but also for conquering a new, huge and demanding market such as the one in Kuwait.
He has said that this contract is a confirmation for delivery of three million litres of water in the upcoming period.
