Digital transformation in education is vital

“For achieving competitiveness in contemporary business and catching up with global developments in economic development, digital transformation in education is vital”, stated State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić at the opening of the Education Synergy programme, within the conference Synergy 16 held in Crowne Plaza Hotel, organised by the Microsoft company.

“Ministry competent for information society and electronic communications, sees the development of communication infrastructure as a corner stone of education reform, which will ensure tools for application of new technologies in the education system, and the conditions for introduction of computer science and coding as mandatory subjects in schools”, State Secretary has explained, reminding that the Ministry, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Academic Network of Serbia, initiated a project of networking all primary and secondary schools in that network, thanks to which the schools will be able to get free and safe Internet connection.

She has added that in cooperation with developmental financial institutions of the USA and Canadian Governments, that project has been prepared and upgraded, called “Connected Schools” which needs to finish the information and communication structure in 1700 primary and secondary schools.

“Serbian Government, led by the PM Aleksandar Vučić, has a vision and objectives, as well as people who can implement the digital transformation. Ministries of line ministers, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunication and Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajić, Minister of State Administration Ana Brnabić, Minister of Finances Dušan Vujović, along with the representatives of the ministry of education, economy, health, show the willingness to work on the entire social transformation in order to meet the needs of our times”, Ms Matić has said.

Having participated in the panel “Digital Business Transformation” within the conference programme “Synergy Business Day”, State Secretary has reminded that a huge progress in the process of digital transformation has been made by the government with the process of television digitalisation, which, among other things, ensured the use of a large number of new and technologically advanced services. She has also reminded that upon the proposal made by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications the Law on Information Safety was adopted, that the Draft Law on Electronic Document, Electronic Identification, and Electronic Trust Services has undergone public discussion and that a new Law on Electronic Communications and the Law on Broadband are in the process of preparation, and all these regulations are necessary for the institutional support of development of the information society.

State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications has also presented the Draft Strategy for Development of Industry of Information Technologies, prepared by that Ministry, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia and the representatives of the IT clusters and IT community.

The panel discussion was also participated by the Assistant Minister of Education Snežana Marković, Director-General of Microsoft Serbia and Montenegro, Željko Vujinović, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, Marko Čadež.
Director-General of Telekom Srbija, Predrag Ćulibrk, CEO and co-founder of Nordeus Branko Milutinović and president of the company MK Group Miodrag Kostić.
