Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism Signed between Serbia and Hungary

State Secretary for Tourism Lukrecija Đeri signed in Budapest a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Tourism between the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry for National Economy of Hungary.

The Memorandum encompasses special forms of cooperation of interest and significance for improving bilateral tourist turnover, promoting cooperation between relevant entities and organizations doing business in the field of tourism, as well as within international tourist organizations.

During her two-day visit, the State Secretary took part in the Third Session of the Working Group for Tourism, where representatives of the Serbian and Hungarian delegations exchanged information on the current situation and policy in tourism for the two countries and the options for cooperation between Serbia and Hungary at the international level. Particular emphasis was placed during discussions on cooperation within the activities of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the European Commission, as well as on strengthening cooperation in the field of tourism between China and Central-Eastern European countries.

The Serbian and Hungarian delegations agreed on the significance of continued participation in priority activities in the field of tourism as per the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, as well as the provision of support for the implementation of tourism projects within the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Serbia – Hungary.

Following the meeting, State Secretary Lukrecija Đeri signed the Protocol on the Cooperation of the Serbian-Hungarian Working Group for Tourism and took part in the Eighth Session of the Serbia-Hungary Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation in Budapest.

According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, there were 27,421 tourists from Hungary visiting the Republic of Serbia in 2015, representing a 12.4% increase compared to 2014. There were 47,436 overnight stays during the past year, 14.2% more than in 2014. Hungarian tourists participate with 2.42% in the total number of arrivals by foreign tourists to the Republic of Serbia and 1.97% in the number of overnight stays.
