Assistant Minister Irini Reljin opened the second working meeting with representatives of TV broadcasters, which the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications organized in cooperation with OSCE Mission to Serbia, marking the beginning of the transition from analog to digital television broadcasting.
At a meeting held today in Niš, Professor Reljin recalled that Serbia is divided into 13 zones of TV signal covering and that simulcast started on September 1, in the areas of Avala, Vršac, Kikinda, Rudnik-Crni vrh, Jagodina, Subotica-Sombor and Čot-Venac. In these zones, the analog signal will be shut down on March 1, 2015, and by May 1, 2015, the same will be done in all the other areas.
The purpose of this event is to inform the broadcasters about the details of the digitalization process, establish good coordination in this process between the relevant institutions and broadcasters, as well as to raise citizens’ knowledge about the transition to digital television broadcasting through media coverage.
Professor Reljin stressed that all citizens who receive the signal through a roof or indoor antenna for reception of digital terrestrial television need to have a TV that can receive digital signals or an appropriate STB (set-top-box) which is connected to their TV. When purchasing an STB device (or a new TV), citizens should pay attention to the sign “Digital TV”, which is a guarantee that the receiver is suitable for reception of digital terrestrial signals in our country.
Cooperation with broadcasters in this process is of great importance in order to timely inform and prepare all citizens who receive the program via the system of terrestrial transmitters for the reception of digital TV signals.
