Tourism earnings in foreign currency in 2014 surpassed those from last year

State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Lukrecija Đeri stated that tourism earnings in foreign currency could surpass those from last year which was 1.05 billion USD.

The earnings in foreign currency stated in EUR has increased by one percent during the first five months of the year, meaning our country’s tourism earnings have increased by 285 million USD compared to the same time last year, Đeri told the Tanjug News Agency.

According to Đeri, tourism earnings stated in USD have increased by 5.5 percent in the first five months of the year, amounting to 388 million USD.

The number of foreign tourist arrivals in the first five months of this year has increased by 11.5 percent compared to the same period in 2013, added Đeri.

However, at the same time, the number of domestic tourists has dropped by 13.6 percent as a consequence of the disastrous floods that happened in our country, stated Đeri.

The floods in Serbia have jeopardized the work of many tourist agencies, hotels, and other housing objects, Đeri said, adding that she expects a quick recovery within the industry.
