Assistant Minister at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Sava Savić, participated today in the Regional Internet Governance Forum in Skopje.
“Serbia recognizes the importance of the principle of Internet neutrality, and supports “open access” which enables everyone to access all the content and services on the Internet, without discrimination and restrictions. For this reason, our country has followed the recommendations and conclusions of the European Union in this field from the beginning,” said Savić.
This principle is implemented in the legislation of the Republic of Serbia in accordance with the EU regulatory framework in telecommunications from 2002. In accordance with this, the Law on Electronic Communications stipulates that the end-users of public electronic communications networks and services have free access to and distribution of information, and the use of applications and services of their choice.
The Assistant Minister stressed the importance of designing and adopting digital policies in a multi-stakeholder manner, with the full cooperation of state authorities.
“It is important that the institutions in the region connect and strengthen cooperation on issues related to Internet governance, in particular the strengthening of infrastructure, local services and content, as well as cooperation against cybercrime, towards protecting human rights and liberties,” said Savić.
He also said that it is hard to imagine the overall economic and social development without Internet, adding that Serbia, as a country in transition, sees the Internet as an opportunity for economic development.
