On December 2, 2016, the European Commission on the behalf of the EU Member States sent a letter of invitation to the Republic of Serbia, informing that the EU conclusion, upon the screening of the legislation in the filed covered by Chapter 28 Consumer and health protection, is that, in this phase, Serbia has sufficiently ready for negotiations for Chapter 28. Serbia is invited to submit its negotiation position for Inter-Governmental conference between Serbia and the EU, with the aim to open this chapter.
