The National Council for Consumer Protection adopted today, on a regular meeting, the final version of the draft of the new Law on Consumer Protection.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić headed the meeting as the President of the National Council for Consumer Protection.

The final version of the draft of the new Law was adopted. A public debate on the draft of the Law was conducted from September 27 to October 27 of this year.

A large number of NGOs and consumer organizations as well as the professional public and the private sector participated in the debate.

The new Law on Consumer Protection will be fully in accordance with the directives and best practice of the European Union and will contribute to strengthening the consumer movement and to more participation by associations in defining and implementing the policies of consumer protection.

The Law will be the basis for the implementation of the Strategy for Consumer Protection for the period until 2018, and it provides for strengthening of consumer rights, as well as the improvement of mechanisms for out of court disputesettlement in that field.

The Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications will forward the draft to the Government of the Republic of Serbia which should adopt it by the end of the year.
