Smart&Safe: IT Caravan in Kruševac

“Over 3000 experts in the field of information-communication technologies find employment in Serbia every year, and we should not forget that jobs in this field are among the best paid. This is just one of the reasons why we should direct young people towards active inclusion in information society. The implementation of educational programmes for youth contributing to the proper use of ICT aims not only to inspire them to use new technologies for their education and thereafter opt for this field in choosing their faculty and occupation, but also to protect them from the potential dangers of the internet”, said State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Tatjana Matić, at the presentation of the IT Caravan project in Kruševac, at the “Vuk Karadžić” Primary School.

She emphasized that this is precisely the goal of the IT Caravan project, promoting the advantages of using the internet and new technologies in education, business, communication, human rights protection and warning of the risks of their improper and undirected use, under the slogan “Smart&Safe”.

Kruševac is the fourth town on the journey of IT Caravan, where a presentation was held for the pupils by teacher Vladan Al Mladenović and animator Osman Ahmed.

“We are implementing the IT Caravan jointly with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and Microsoft, with whom we have cooperated multiple times on projects for stimulating the use and development of new technologies in education”, noted Matić, and reminded that on this occasion the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić and Director of Microsoft Serbia and Montenegro Željko Vujinović recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding defining cooperation on the IT Caravan project.

The project started in Novi Pazar, followed by presentations in Leskovac and Vranje. Nearly 1000 pupils of upper grades of primary school attended the presentation to date, while the promotion of this project on town squares was seen by several thousand citizens. By 3 June IT Caravan will visit the following towns: Kraljevo, Jagodina, Požarevac, Smederevo, Vršac, Zrenjanin, Kikinda, Subotica, Sremska Mitrovica, Šabac and Loznica.

IT Caravan is the bearer of a broader initiative for the development of information society, initiated by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, including projects that, in addition to education, stimulate business, communications, and human rights protection in information society. All the programmes developed under the slogan “Smart and Safe” are presented online, on the newly opened website pametnoibezbedno.gov.rs, as well as on social networks.
