Serbia to host the ITU Regional Preparatory Meeting for Europe which is key for the future development of telecommunications

The delegation of the Republic of Serbia, headed by the State Secretary Stefan Lazarević met with the top officials of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). During its visit to the ITU, our delegation met with Haolin Zhao, the Deputy Secretary General, as well as with the Director of the Telecommunication Standardization Bureau and the Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau and the members of the Telecommunication Development Bureau.

In the meetings with the top officials of the ITU, current topics in the field of telecommunications which are of great importance for further development of telecommunications were discussed, with emphasis on the topic of effective management of radio frequency spectrum and standardization, as well as topics that are important for the integration of Serbia in the EU and Serbia’s position in the ITU.

Lazarević and the ITU officials also discussed the preparations for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) which is to be held in 2014 in order to set the agenda and guidelines for the next four-year cycle of development of telecommunications on a worldwide basis.

Serbia and Belgrade will have the honor of hosting the Regional Preparatory Meeting for Europe from November 26 to November 29, 2013. The meeting will bring together government representatives from 40 countries from all the regions of Europe, which will harmonize the views of the European countries on key issues for the future development of telecommunications and serve as a preparation for the World Conference in 2014. The event will be preceded by the Regional Development Forum for Europe, which will be organized in Belgrade on November 25, 2013.

The Republic of Serbia is one of the founders of the ITU and a long respected member of the international organization.
