Rakić: E-Commerce in Serbia Keeping Up with Countries in the Region

The Head of the Department for Trade and Competition Development at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Željko Rakić stated that the development of e-commerce in Serbia is increasing, keeping up with the countries in the region.

Speaking at a workshop on the development of e-commerce in Belgrade, attended by nearly 100 representatives of relevant institutions, the private sector and other organizations, he emphasized that the Ministry of Trade is continuously working on improving this area.

Assistant Minister of Economy Katarina Obradović Jovanović stated that during the year of entrepreneurship this sector will allocate greater funds for support to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, contributing to the development of e-business and improving the business environment for the development of digital business.

The Director of the Directorate for e-Government Dušan Stojanović emphasized that e-governance in Serbia is rapidly developing despite numerous obstacles, such as the lack of legislation, infrastructure, interoperability, and funds.
Ivan Brkić and Aleksandar Birovljev, the project experts leading the workshop, presented obstacles to the development of e-commerce identified by the project Development of e-Commerce.

An example from practice was presented by Jelena Bojović, NALED Director for Regulatory Reform, through the introduction of electronic construction permits, while Vladimir Nikolić, portal Limundo, spoke of problems in e-commerce.

Women’s entrepreneurship and problems they face in e-commerce were presented by Milena Popović, owner of the BeeCool webshop and Jelena Aleksić, TV shop Direct International.

The participants were presented with the results of the recent survey on the use of e-commerce from the side of consumers, implemented as part of the project, growth trends of e-commerce in Serbia and the globally, as well as project activities on introducing eTrustmark.

The participants worked in groups to identify activities for improving the business conditions for e-commerce in Serbia, as well as the planning of stakeholders and their roles to further develop this field.

Certificates were issued at the end on successful attendance of the training of improving the business environment in the field of e-commerce.

The workshop on the development of e-commerce was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Economy, additionally implemented as part of the IPA project e-Business Development, financed by the EU.
