Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić has said today that a larger issue is the meat exporting potential of Serbia than the issue of placement of that goods abroad.
“There must be a bigger need for our meat, bigger than our potentials at this point. Just to remind you that we have the quota for exporting beef, so called “baby beef” on the market of the EU of 8.700 tons, and that last year we exported only 400 tons of the meat”, says Mr Ljajić.
He added that Serbia has exported the largest portion of the meat to the countries in the region, and that starting of January this year we have 5.000 tons of meat in the free trade with Turkey.
He has said that the export started last Monday, in spite of the fact that the agreements has not been ratified yet, but Turkey has expressed the readiness to start the export of meat to their market even before the ratification.
“There are huge opportunities for the agriculture, our institutes in Novi Sad, especially for the export of wheat seed, corn, have worked together with Iran and we hope that a fruitful period of more intensive cooperation is before, when we talk about the export of agricultural products”, concluded Mr Ljajić.
