Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić signed the regulations which ensure the full application of the Law on Mediation in real estate and leasing which will introduce order in relation to the sale and lease of real estate.
The four adopted regulations, which come into effect on July 29, provide for the introduction of professional examination for mediators real estate and leasing, as well as the creation of a registry of mediators, which is in line with EU standards.
Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić told Tanjug that according to the information available to the Ministry, in Serbia there are about 800 businesses and 1,500 employees who are formally engaged in real estate brokerage, and that the implementation of the new regulations will improve the quality of service and enhance the competitiveness of businesses.
“So far, the situation in the real estate market was diverse and a large number of citizens complained about incompetent or negligent mediators. Now, we have clearly defined criteria that determine who can be a mediator, and we introduced professional examination for licensing mediators. In this way, we will help buyers and sellers get the best service, but we will also assist mediators, because by doing all of this we eliminate unfair competition” said Ljajić.
He also notes that after the entry into force of the regulations, a list of examiners for licensing mediators will be prepared, the examiners will be chosen from the ranks of university professors and other experts in this field and that the first examination period is most likely to take place in October or November of the current year.
