Ljajić and Jones: Economic Cooperation of Serbia and USA Improving

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić met today with Executive Director for European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce Skip Jones, discussing the improvement of the overall economic relations between the two countries and the possibilities for increasing the volume of trade in goods.

On this occasion the Executive Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce Skip Jones said the business community of the country sees significant opportunities for expanding economic cooperation with Serbia in the field of information-communication technologies, the automobile industry, the pharmaceutical industry, energy and infrastructure, and that these are the industries that can lead to continued future growth in the trade in goods between the two countries.

Minister Ljajić noted that bilateral cooperation in the field of telecommunications is improving, citing the example of the project of introducing wireless internet into all primary and secondary schools in Serbia and the networking of schools into a unified information system, soon to be implemented by the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the US company “CISCO”.

Ljajić and Jones also agreed that a good step towards improving the business climate between the two countries would be the signing of a bilateral agreement on stimulating and protecting investments, with harmonization of this agreement currently under way.
