State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Tatjana Matic said today that the role of the Council for product safety is to enhance inter-agency cooperation and establish new standards in the field of market surveillance for non-food products that already exist in EU member states.
Matic, who presided over the first constituent session of the council, said that the task of this body, which was established by the government of Serbia, is to strengthen coordination between all inspectorates in relevant ministries.

She pointed out that the council’s aim is to improve the status of consumers and to upgrade the quality and safety of products on the market.
Also, she added that the body will monitor and analyse the implementation of activities and measures of market surveillance, and provide opinions and recommendations relating to the implementation of regulations in the area of market surveillance.
