Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić has stated early today that Serbia has the potential for develop religious tourism but that is should work on the improvement of the infrastructure and marketing of those destinations.

In his speech at the conference “Religious Tourism and Contemporary Touristic Market”, held at the Belgrade University of “Singidunum”, Mr Ljajić has said that the government will promote and support religious tourism as much as it can.

“The issue is the poor infrastructure, there are monasteries which are difficult to reach”, Mr Ljajić has said, adding that travel agencies should have offers of religious tourism as well, and the target groups would definitely be the tourists from Russia.

Minister has also added that, when it comes to religious tourism, a closer cooperation of Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece should be made at that regional level and to discuss what we can offer together.

This subject of interest for all religious community in Serbia was the topic of its highest representatives – Head of Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej, Belgrade Archbishop Stanislav Hočevar, and Reis of Islamic Community of Serbia Sead Nasufović.

State and religious representatives have concluded that the development of religious tourism can have beneficial economic effects, and to bring the people of different religions and nations together.
