Cultural tourism is gaining importance: Serbia has got an offer

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunication, Mr Rasim Ljajic has visited today the archaeological site of Viminacium, in which the ministry invested 4.2 million dinars for development and equipment of the Mammoth Park, while 25 million dinars were allocated for the installation of the pontoon on the Danube near Kostolac.

Mr Ljajic has said that there is a desire to create a single thematic cultural route which will include Viminacium, and all other Serbian archaeological and historical sites, since it is one of rare countries which has a lot to offer in that respect.

“It should be mentioned that the cultural tourism is gaining importance. Four out of ten tourist state cultural offer as one of the main reason when deciding which place to visit and we should use that chance and in the following period we will invest not only in the construction of this single thematic cultural route but also in the presentation of everything Serbia has to offer when it comes to history and culture”, Mr Ljajic has said.

He has stated that Viminacium, as one of 10 most significant archaeological sites in Europa, is visited by 80.000 people a year, out of which 30 per cent are foreigners, and that it is still a small number and not in line with the significance Viminacium has in cultural, historical and archaeological sense.

Mr Ljajic has said that in 2018, there will be a congress of archaeologists and that 1.200 most prominent world archaeologists will come to Serbia.

“By then we should do a lot of things in order to present Viminacium in the best light regarding its historical and cultural significance not only for Serbia but for entire world. We have lots of things to present”, Mr Ljajic has stated.

He has stated that the Ministry is ready to help the realisation of such projects and that last year and this year it financed the projects in the amount of 29 million dinars, including the projects of harbour near Viminacium.

“We are ready to talk about the funding of other projects as well, so that in 2018 we would be ready”, Mr Ljajic has said.
