Congratulation and support for young mathematicians

State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić has congratulated to the pupils of the Mathematical Grammar School in Belgrade for the medals they won at the European Mathematical Olympics for girls held in Florence on April 9-15.

“The success of our mathematicians has reaffirmed the necessity of the support to the young at the international contests, who represent the Republic of Serbia as a country nourishing its talents and investing in the future”, emphasized Ms Matić.

She has reminded that the Ministry in charge of telecommunications has recently conducted a Public Call for projects of support to international contests in the field of computer science, IT, mathematics, and physics, where, inter alia, the CUP of the Mathematical Grammar School was approved, supported by this Ministry starting from the first contest, in the past six years, with the total of around ten million and seven hundred dinars.

State Secretary has said that this year the following projects have also been approved: International tournament of the young physicians, International contest in physics, and International contest in IT literacy “Dabar”, and that the contracts for their realisation will be signed on Wednesday, April 18, at 11 o’clock, in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Telecommunications.

At the contest held in Florence there were participants from 52 countries, and the Serbian contestants won three medals and one praise – Jelena Ivančić won a gold medal with 42 points, which is the maximal number of points, a silver medal was won by Tamara Ponjavić, a bronze medal was won by Irina Đanković, and the praise was given to Nina Matić.
