State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić called upon all the relevant stakeholders in culture to incorporate digital technology in the presentation of our cultural heritage.
In her speech at the public lecture “The purpose and process of digitalization of library materials”, Matić said that the program “Digital Libraries” is an opportunity for the education and networking of cultural workers in Serbia. She estimates that the project will facilitate the exchange of experiences and best practices with colleagues from the region, all with the aim of improving the work on the digitalization of our cultural heritage.
“This is a way of ensuring synergy between the field of ICT and culture, as well as between the activities of our Ministry and the Foundation of the National Library”, said the State Secretary.
According to her, the goal of the Ministry of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications, through the sponsorship of this project, is to take a joint step forward towards improving the digitalization and protection of heritage in Serbia.
The lecture entitled “The purpose and process of digitalization of library materials” aims to present the process of digitalization of cultural heritage and explain its purposes to the employees in the field of culture, and to the general public interested in this area.
The “Digital Libraries – Education” Project will last eight months with many activities planned for the purpose of education and promotion of the digitalization process. The National library of Serbia formed a team of experts that will work in this field and has launched an initiative to define the standards in this area. Representatives of relevant institutions in culture will collaborate in defining these standards.
