The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Marks 9 February – Safer Internet Day

The Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, in cooperation with the Centre for Safer Internet Serbia, will mark Safer Internet Day on 9 February 2016 at the House of the National Assembly, starting at 10 o’clock.

The ceremonial opening of the event marking Safer Internet Day will be led by State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Tatjana Matić.

Panel discussions will be held on this occasion regarding “Protection of Personal Data and the Role of Institutions in the Online Environment” and “Working with Youth and Challenges Introduced by New Technologies”. The participants of the panel will be representatives of state institutions – the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the Republic Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of the Interior, Children’s Cultural Centre, as well as the non-government sector – representatives of the Youth Office, B92 Fund, Net Patrol and the Centre for Safer Internet.

The Choir of the Children’s Cultural Centre will also participate in the programme, and representatives of ICT companies doing business in Serbia are also expected to attend.

The goal of the event is the promotion of the use of the internet, providing limitless potential for communication and learning, but with awareness of the risks presented by the online environment. The participants of the panels will focus attention on the role and responsibility we all hold in the joint creation of a better and safer internet, particularly for children and future generations.

Safer Internet Day is marked worldwide, this year under the slogan “Play your part for a better internet”, aimed at promoting the safe use of new technologies and the internet. By marking Safer Internet Day for the thirteenth time in Serbia, the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and the Centre for Safer Internet are taking part in this international campaign.
