Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić is on an official visit to Iran, where he talked, in separate meetings, with Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri Kouhshahi and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.
He also met with Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati, Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh, Minister of Economy and Finance Ali Tayebnia and Director of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Masoud Soltanifar.
Given that Iran is under sanctions from the international community, Ljajić discussed with the Iranian officials modes of cooperation in the fields of agriculture and pharmacy, which are not included in the embargo.
On this occasion, the Iranian side expressed particular interest in importing corn seed, wheat, sunflower, soybean and sugar beet, as well as all forms of cooperation with agricultural institutes from Serbia.
The Iranian officials stressed the expectation that an agreement on the nuclear program between Iran and the countries of the P5+1 group will be conclude soon and that the sanctions will be suspended. It was also agreed that a Joint Committee for economic cooperation between Serbia and Iran should be held at the end of the year, for discussing the possibilities for improving the relations in the fields of energy, automotive industry and infrastructure between the two countries.
It was also agreed that prior to the meeting of the Joint Committee, a delegation of businessmen from Iran should visit Serbia.
The signing of a cooperation agreement in the field of tourism was also agreed and Ljajić voiced the hope that the Serbia would in the future welcome more Iranian tourists, and that the Belgrade Tourism Fair would next year host more tourism organizations and agencies from Iran.
