A new digital era has commenced in Serbia by disabling the analog signal at the Vršac Hill broadcasting station switching over to a digital system of broadcasting of television programs.
Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajić and Acting director of the public enterprise “ETV” (Broadcasting equipment and communications) Branko Gogić were present during the switch-off of analog broadcasting at the Vršac Hill broadcasting station.
“This is the finale of the digitalization process in Serbia and the start of the complete switching off of analog signal broadcasting… Vršac is the first city in Serbia where we are completely disabling analog signal broadcasting,” said Ljajic said today in Vršac.
Minister Ljajić said that the project cost 37.5 million euros, including the 10 million euros donation from the European Union. Ljajić said that the State invested 27 million euros in the project and pointed out that it should earn a minimum of 75 million euros through selling the digital dividends, via a public call, immediately after the completion of the digitalization project.
The Minister recalled that all of Vojvodina will be digitalized by May 18, and that on May 25, the analog signal will be disabled at the Avala broadcasting station which covers 2.5 million residents of Serbia.
He announced that the digitalization process will be completed by June 15.
