State Secretary at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić, speaking as a guest on the RTS morning show, said that in Serbia, between 800,000 and one million people do not have new television sets which are compatible for receiving digital signals, and that in order for them to be able to receive TV signals after the completion of digitalization, they will have to buy Set Top Boxes (STBs) which will cost about 2500 RSD.
Matić said that about 38% of citizens have old TV sets.
If you have not considered replacing your TV set, then it is best to buy an adapter i.e. set-top box, noted Matić.
She said that the STBs, which are available now, are expensive because demand is low and that after the New Year they will be cheaper and are expected to cost around 2500 RSD.
Matić has cautioned people to check whether the STBs have a stamp of quality.
She reminded that the most vulnerable citizens, those receiving cash benefits as well as pensioners with the lowest pensions who live alone in the household, will get free adapters and that application for this will start next week.
The deadline for completion of digitalization is June 17, 2015.
