Deputy Prime Minister<\/span><\/span> and<\/span> Minister of Trade<\/span>, Tourism and Telecommunications<\/span> of the Republic of Serbia Rasim<\/span> <\/span>Ljaji\u0107 <\/span>said that<\/span><\/span> in the first<\/span> quarter of this<\/span> year Serbia showed a 20<\/span> per cent<\/span> growth in exports<\/span> to Slovenia, adding<\/span> that our country<\/span> still wants<\/span> to<\/span> increase the<\/span> volume of exports<\/span> to Slovenia<\/span>, as well as<\/span> to increase<\/span> the range of<\/span> Serbian<\/span> products<\/span> on<\/span> the Slovenian market.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at<\/span><\/span> the<\/span> Serbian-Slovenian<\/span> business forum<\/span> in the<\/span> Serbian Chamber of Commerce, <\/span><\/span>Ljaji\u0107<\/span> said that<\/span><\/span> in addition to the increase in exports, Serbia<\/span> wants<\/span> to increase<\/span> Slovenian<\/span> investments<\/span> in Serbia<\/span>, pointing out that<\/span> so far there are 1.500<\/span> Slovenian companies <\/span>registered in our country<\/span>, which is the<\/span> best recommendation<\/span> possible for other<\/span> companies from<\/span> that country<\/span> to invest in Serbia<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ljaji\u0107<\/span> said that<\/span><\/span> Serbia<\/span> now<\/span> covers<\/span> 99.3<\/span> per cent of its imports from Slovenia by its exports<\/span> to that country<\/span>, which, as he pointed out,<\/span> would have been unimaginable a few years ago<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Deputy Prime Minister<\/span><\/span> added that<\/span> Serbia is working<\/span> on changing its<\/span> business environment and<\/span> that<\/span> the process of adoption of a series<\/span> of important laws<\/span> that will<\/span> enable a better<\/span> business climate<\/span> and<\/span> greater foreign<\/span> investment is ongoing.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ljaji\u0107<\/span> said that<\/span><\/span> Serbia is interested in<\/span> a joint participation of<\/span> Serbian<\/span> and<\/span> Slovenian companies<\/span> in third markets<\/span>, recalling that<\/span> such a<\/span> memorandum<\/span> of<\/span> cooperation was signed<\/span> late last year<\/span>, as both<\/span> Serbia<\/span> and<\/span> Slovenia<\/span> are small<\/span> markets that<\/span> need<\/span> to come together in order<\/span> to be<\/span> competitive<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As <\/span>Ljaji\u0107 noted<\/span>, <\/span>Serbia is also<\/span> interested in the<\/span><\/span> logistical support<\/span> of Slovenia<\/span> in the use of<\/span> European funds<\/span>, bearing in mind that<\/span> Slovenia<\/span> has<\/span> significant experience in that area<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ljaji\u0107 <\/span>said that the<\/span><\/span> political<\/span> and legal cooperation<\/span> between the<\/span> two<\/span> countries is excellent<\/span>, and<\/span> that there are no outstanding issues between the two countries<\/span> which is a good<\/span> prerequisite<\/span> for<\/span> strengthening<\/span> economic cooperation<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

He recalled<\/span><\/span> that last year<\/span> a joint<\/span> session of<\/span> the two governments was held,<\/span> and announced<\/span> that a<\/span> similar session<\/span> will be held<\/span> this year<\/span> in Ljubljana.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ljaji\u0107 <\/span>announced that a joint Serbian<\/span><\/span>–<\/span><\/span>Slovenian Committee<\/span> will be held on the June 19 and 20 in Slovenia and that the areas<\/span> in which cooperation could be improved have already been defined<\/span>, including agriculture<\/span>, environment protection, transport, ICT<\/span> sector<\/span> and<\/span> the field of<\/span> rehabilitation of<\/span> consequences of<\/span> natural disasters<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will do<\/span><\/span> everything we can to<\/span> improve<\/span> economic cooperation<\/span> between the<\/span> two<\/span> friendly countries<\/span>, said<\/span> <\/span>Ljaji\u0107, <\/span>adding that<\/span><\/span> so far<\/span> we have<\/span> signed<\/span> 17 bilateral<\/span> agreements<\/span>, including an agreement on<\/span> economic and<\/span> trade cooperation<\/span>, investment promotion and<\/span> social insurance<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The President of<\/span><\/span> Slovenia,<\/span> Borut<\/span> Pahor<\/span> said<\/span> that relations between Slovenia<\/span> and<\/span> Serbia are finally excellent<\/span> and<\/span> that there is nothing<\/span> that could<\/span> spoil them<\/span> in the future<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

He recalled<\/span><\/span> that<\/span> early<\/span> parliamentary<\/span> elections<\/span> will be held in Slovenia soon and<\/span> that the new government should<\/span> be<\/span> formed<\/span> in September<\/span> or October<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

The process<\/span><\/span> of economic recovery is commencing in Slovenia<\/span>, and its pace will<\/span> depend on the<\/span> policies of<\/span> the<\/span> government<\/span> and the business community<\/span>, said the<\/span> Slovenian President<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n
